Non-profit run so 100% of proceeds goes to the farmer. Your payment is made directly to the farmers.
No storage, no extra handling - boxes packed on the farm, not stored or handled in warehouses.
Extremely fresh - delivered within hours of harvest from farms that are 1-2 hours from the Bay area.
Your dollars directly benefit local small organic farmers -making a difference in the lives of these very small family run farms . This project has already helped farmer families pay rent, buy groceries and save for emergencies ahead.
Drop-off at your neighborhood site saves on the carbon footprint of delivery- :Distributing via volunteer run drop off sites means we reduce farmer time on the road, and gas used in delivery.
Building communities of food enthusiasts: Neighborhoods are building connections with other consumers who care about local organic produce as they connect about food pickup times, and share recipes ideas.
Online sale opportunity for the small farmer: a new marketing channel for small farmers with limited resources , marketing budgets or know-how on how to run an online store.
Building communities around the food we eat : We build a direct connection between farmers and you. You get to know these small farmers and can visit and meet the farmer who grew that bunch of carrots you enjoyed last week.
Fair to farmers, Fair to consumers - Fair to all: We support local farmers to get a fair price for their produce while getting a fair price to all consumers.
How does it work?
1. WE TALK TO THE FARMERS Farmers are contacted to see what is available for the week to set up the online shop.
2: STORE OPEN FOR SHOPPING : Store is open only for limited days - Monday 8pm to Wednesday 9pm . You select the produce you want for the week - there are no fixed boxes. To make this sustainable for the farmers, please shop for least $25 worth of produce each week. The payments are made online directly to the farmer - your statement will show the name of your coordinator farmer..
4: ORDERS ARE SENT TO THE FARMERS The online store closes and consolidated orders are sent to the farmers so they can plan their harvest labor, box packing crew etc.
5: HARVEST AND DELIVER Farmers harvest the produce, pack your customized individual box and deliver to the neighborhood sites on Saturday
6: PICK-UP YOUR PRODUCE You pickup your order within the delivery window - and the neighborhood coordinator will update you on exact delivery times once we get an update on when the farmer’s van has left the farm.
More about the Farmers
Many of the farmers that are partnering on this project are (Jesus Calzadillas, Maria Anna Reyes , and Uriel Mendoza) are graduates of the ALBA program, a nonprofit that turns farm-workers into farmers through a 4-year intensive program on organic farming. These farmers and some other farmers in the project are being supported by the nonprofit Kitchen Table Advisors.
These farmers run very small farms, usually farmed by their own family. They are too small to have the resources for running marketing activities like an individualized farm-to-consumer program like CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or participating in farmers markets.

Farm to Table stories
It is organic, it is local, but most importantly, it is fresh since it was harvested just a few hours before delivery. We encourage you to cook with it soon, maybe even on the same day to enjoy the real Farm to Table experience.
The story behind Farm to My Neighborhood
It all started with kale!
We are going to blame Tania for this! Tania, is the Kitchen Table Advisor for some of these farmers. She told Sheena, from Tera Farm, about how she could buy some freshly harvested kale from the farmers. Sheena decided to ask a few friends to share two wholesale boxes of kale (see photo above) - and those friends told a few more friends and soon there were more requests then the kale picked up from the farm! Everyone loved it and were soon sharing kale recipes. When the farmers heard from Sheena how much everyone was enjoying the kale, they sent a message that there was more kale, and also other items that could be harvested that Saturday… so suddenly Sheena had to create an order form to manage the requests from all the friends, and then of course more friends found out, and so here we are …
The names of these ‘kale crazy’ friends are kept anonymous for now . They are the brave food advocates, the local food champions that inspired this idea - and are the pilot neighborhood hosts, helping design this service as we run it !
